Where To Eat When You Are In Kolkata

French author Dominique Lapierre baptized Kolkata as the ‘City of Joy’, though his novel depicts horrific poverty and the darker side of this evergreen city. As famously known as a “cultural capital of India”, Kolkata has lots to offer in terms of tradition and culture. And one thing cannot be missed, is the culinary journey of Bengali cuisine, passing through lip-smacking kitchens of Bengali’s own gastronomic delights.

Bengali foods are not just exotic, but cheap and probably the cheapest in the world. You won’t find difficulty to find any imaginable street food in this city whether you are looking for vegetarian or non-vegetarian. Street vendors selling snacks like chowmien, idli, dosa, uttapaam, ghoogni bhelpuri, golgappas, jhaal muri, rolls are ubiquitous  around schools, colleges, office paras (areas) and other crowded places.

Where Famous Food Joints are Located?

A typical roadside snack corner
While passing through the busy streets of central Kolkata, especially in the area of Dalhousie, you will notice a large number of state and central government offices, and around them ubiquitous food stalls selling lunch, snacks, fruits and juices. You can also find a wide variety of food joints in Esplanade area, especially in Dacres Lane.

If you are in vegan-diet, you can find good foods in long stretches on Theatre Road, Russell Street, Lord Sinha Road, Camac Street where you can taste some scrumptious paw-bhaji, moong dal vadas, etc.

Best Beef Joints Found in Kolkata..

You can find good beef biryani in Esplanade area, another dish haleem is a specialty in many roadside restaurants in Kolkata. It is a blend of wheat, meat (usually beef), and different types of daal (lentils and spices. In central Kolkata, some restaurants serve the best beef steaks in the country.
