Top Places to Go Sight-Seeing in Hyderabad

Hyderabad is a place famous for its Charminars and Biryanis, but did you know the place offers a whole variety of tourist attractions as well? Let’s take a look at some of the top places for sight-seeing in the city:

Charminar

This tourist spot had to naturally top our list. Charminar is one of the most important historical landmarks in Hyderabad. Such is the importance of the monument that its name has become synonymous with the city of Hyderabad. Built of four minarets, the massive monument was erected in 1591 when Quli Qutb Shah shifted his capital from Golconda to Hyderabad. Charminar is a beauty to behold in the night when it is beautifully lit up.

Hussain Sagar Lake

This is Asia’s largest artificial lake, famous for the huge Lord Buddha statue that’s placed at its centre and is surrounded by a 3 km long dam wall. This major tourist attraction offers several activities to its visitors, such as boat rides, water sports, fish culturing, etc. It also connects the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

Golkonda Fort

This massive fortress only has ruins remaining today, telling the tale of its glorious past. The Golkonda Fort is 11 km from Hyderabad and had once served as the capital of the Golkonda Kingdom before it became famous under the Qutub Shahi Dynasty. It’s here that the famous Koo-i-noor was produced.

In the evening, the fort hosts a light and sound show, giving an account of its rich history to the viewers.

Chowmahalla Palace

This palace, once the official residence of the Hyderabadi Nizams, is located very close to Charminar. Built with intricate detail more than 200 years ago, this elegant palace is replete with the Nawabi charm of Hyderabad. In 2010, it was decorated with the Asia Pacific Meri award for conserving the cultural heritage of the region.

Osman Sagar Lake

This lake lies on the outskirts of Hyderabad and is one of the most famous tourist destinations of the city. You can spend some quality time here on a picnic with friends and family, relaxing in the gardens by the pool.

Famous Ice Creams

This is one of the most famous ice cream joints in the city. The parlour is famous with the locals for its delicious ice creams and has slowly gained popularity with the tourists, too.

When you are in the city, staying at some of the best hotels in Hyderabad will promise you an unparalleled tourist experience. ITC Hyderabad is one such place that you can always count on for a truly royal, Hyderabad-styled experience.
